Even the biggest wedding dresses budgets have limits, so couples have to make decisions based on their priorities. Most photographers have packages with flexibility that allow clients to purchase only the services they want. Among those choices, Douglas Benedict suggests:
1. Do you want two photographers? There's a lot going on during a wedding day and one good photographer can get all the important events but an additional photographer adds a second perspective on the day.
2. How much time? Do you really want photos from the salon before hair & make-up? And at the end of the evening, how many crazy dancing photos do you really need? I like to arrive about an hour before the dress goes on and leave the reception once the speeches, parent dances and cake-cutting is complete.
3. Do you want an engagement session? These can be handy for save-the-dates. It's also an important opportunity to work with your photographer before your wedding day. It's probably the first professional photography shoot a bride and groom have ever had. It's a shoot about who you are as a couple right now to keep forever. These are the photos your kids will use to make fun of how you dressed "back then."
4. Do you want the photo files on a disc? If you want to use one of your wedding dress photos for thank you notes or your next Christmas card, you want these. It's also important if you want to put your favorite wedding photos on Facebook or your iPad. You can also make copies of these discs for mom and Aunt Edna. Some photographers include the photo files. Some sell them as an option. A few will not part with them.
5. How about an album? They are pretty expensive and if you've purchased the photo files you can make your own. It won't be anywhere near as nice as what a professional photographer can provide but again, it's all about priorities.
